In the spring of 2020, it was decided that Åland would invest heavily in disc golf, in some circles also called frisbee golf. They aim to open a disc golf course in each of Åland’s 16 municipalities in 2020, which means that the island will become one of the world’s largest disc golf facilities and will have the highest density of courses in Finland, and in the whole world! Several of the tracks have been completed and a total of 11 tracks will be ready for the opening on July 25, 2020.

Disc golf is played over nine or eighteen holes and the mission is to get the disc (frisbee) into the goal which can be at different distances from the launch site. As in regular golf, the player wants to get the disc to the goal with as few throws as possible and a hole can have par (ideal number of throws) three, four or five. Bring your own frisbee golf discs, borrow a set from Visit Åland’s tourist information or buy a new set on Åland to practice the sport.
